He was the only child of John and Helen Jakiel. He grew up surrounded by Aunts and Uncles and many Cousins in McKees Rocks, PA.

From an early age Bill was a hard worker. That work career started around 10 years of age by setting duck pins in a bowling alley. He wanted to do more with his life and moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Minneapolis, MN to pursue a career with the airlines. His first airline job was with Ozark Airlines in Chicago, IL where he met his first wife Pamela Rousseau (nee Heltenen). They welcomed their first daughter, Lisa, and then later their second daughter, Jodi, in Illinois before being transferred to Texas.

Bill was later transferred to Florida, where he served as a Ticket Agent and then Ramp Supervisor for TWA which became American Airlines. He met his second wife, Judith (nee Walsh), while in Florida and they welcomed their daughter Laura into their lives.

Bill found great joy in his family and delighted in his successful daughters and grandson (Maxwell). He enjoyed entertaining and cooking Polish food for his friends and family. The holidays were always a big deal at the Jakiel house. He enjoyed traveling and made friends wherever he went.

Bill was incredibly active in softball, bowling, horseshoes, and golf. He competed with his friends and co-workers in many tournaments until his later years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan no matter how the season was going. He enjoyed boating and spent many an enjoyable time on the water with the Kissimmee Boat-A-Cade. And enjoyed listening to music especially The Righteous Brothers and the Four Seasons.
