An Orlando man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into the back of a police cruiser that had its emergency lights activated for a lane closure on SR 408.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident took place at around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 11. A 24-year-old man was driving a 2013 Nissan westbound on SR 408, just west of SR 417, near mile marker 17.

The driver did not see that the lane was closed and did not observe the parked FHP vehicle, which was stationary in the lane with its emergency lights activated for the lane closure.

The front of the Nissan crashed into the back of the FHP vehicle. The FHP trooper sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, 24-year-old Rodrigo Alexander Robles Perez, was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence and not having a license.

After the arrest, Perez registered a breath sample of .221, which is nearly three times the legal limit in the state of Florida (.08).

Perez was transported to the Orange County Jail.
