A 49-year-old man from Orange City unsuccessfully tried to hide a half-pound bag of methamphetamine under a police vehicle after he was pulled over in DeLand.
Just before midnight on Thursday, August 18, teams from the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force and Crime Suppression unit determined that John Schneider had purchased methamphetamine outside of the county and was attempting to transport it back to sell out of his home in Orange City.
A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in which Schneider was riding. Body camera video from the officers who made the arrest shows the moment that Schneider walks in front of the police cruiser and attempts to conceal a bag of methamphetamine underneath the vehicle by tossing it to the ground.
The meth was later weighed and determined to be a half-pound in weight.
While searching Schneider’s pockets and clothing, officers discovered an additional gram of meth in his right sock.
Schneider was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, tampering with evidence and resisting arrest without violence. His girlfriend, 49-year-old Lee Sanberg, was charged with conspiracy to traffic in methamphetamine. The vehicle in which they were riding was seized by police.
Schneider and Sanberg were both booked into the Volusia County Jail. Schneider’s bond was set at $511,000, while Sanberg’s was set at $500,000. According to jail records, Schneider has been arrested at least 12 times since 2005, while Sanberg has been arrested a half dozen times since 2013.
