A passenger was killed and multiple others were injured after an Orlando driver fell asleep at the wheel, drifted into a pickup truck, and slammed into a concrete embankment this morning.
The fatal accident took place on Tuesday, September 6 at around 6:10 a.m. on State Road 400, near mile marker 26.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a Lexus sedan being driven by a 41-year-old Orlando man was traveling eastbound in the center lane when the driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
The Lexus entered the center lane of the highway and collided with the right rear of a Dodge pickup truck being driven by a 48-year-old Ruskin man.
After the collision, the Lexus rotated to the south shoulder and collided with a concrete embankment before coming to final rest along the shoulder.
The driver, as well as an 18-year-old man from Orlando and a 23-year-old man from Mississippi, suffered minor injuries.
Another passenger in the Lexus, a woman, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and has not yet been identified by authorities
