Fringe ArtSpace will host a celebration to commemorate its new residency at the former home of the Mad Cow Theatre.
Orlando Fringe is hosting its Grand Opening Bash at 54 W Church Street on Wednesday, January 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The street party will benefit the organization and is free and open to the community. Festivities will include an open house, DJ, strolling entertainment, drinks, a ribbon cutting, and two screenings of the Winter Mini-Fest Teaser Show.
In May, the theatre was vacated by its former tenant, Mad Cow Theatre after Orlando officials waived over $425,000 in accumulated rental debt.
The location, which is part of the 55 West retail space, had been subleased to Mad Cow Theatre, Inc. since 2011. In October 2021, the city issued a notice of default of the sublease for failure to pay the sums due under the agreement. In addition, Mad Cow entered into a Funding Agreement with the CRA for $480,000.
As part of that agreement, Mad Cow was required to reimburse the CRA the total with an additional five percent interest, or $504,000. The business made contributions totaling just over $53,000 and city officials negotiated a settlement agreement in which Mad Cow agreed to vacate the building by May 31 in exchange for forgiveness of the debt owed.
