A dozen former leaders of the Parramore Community were honored with public sculptures at downtown Orlando’s newest park.
Twelve steel installations were unveiled at Luminary Green Park on Friday, February 3, posthumously honoring leaders and advocates who dedicated their lives to the prosperity of the Parramore community.
The twelve individuals to receive the honor were chosen by a special selection panel in March 2022.
The panel independently reviewed and scored nominations on a 25-point scoring matrix, with points attributed for a nominee’s involvement, commitment to, and verified contributions to the Parramore Community.
Those honored include former city commissioners Napoleon “Nap” Ford and Daisy W. Lynum, Vencina Cannady, Mercerdese R. Clark, Wilbur S. Gary, Dr. Ozell “Billy” Green, Eddie T. Jackson, Henry Sadler, Reverend Nathaniel G. Staggers, Ira “Sony” Vance, Georgia Nell Woodley, and C.T. Williams.
Luminary Green Park officially opened to the public over the summer and has since played host to a variety of events, including Mayor Buddy Dyer’s state of the city.
The 2.3-acre park features an iconic trellis, canopy trees, shaded seating and bold Orlando letters for a city-themed photo spot.
