Judy Gregg, 72, resident of Celebration, Florida passed away on March 28, 2023 at AdventHealth Celebration Hospital.
Judy was born February 12, 1951 at Art Center Hospital in Detroit Michigan. She was the first-born daughter of five children to Eugene and Sylvia Franzel. She was married to Dale Gregg for 46 years and is survived by her three children: Rebecca Gregg, Michael Gregg, and Christina Cleffie.
She was Grandma Judy to four surviving grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; Matthew, Olivia, Tyler, and Daniel Gregg and Hannu and Helena Haapa. Judy is also survived by her two brothers; Terry (Mary) Franzel, Larry (Leslee) Franzel and sister; Sheryl Garton. She is predeceased by her parents and sister, JoAnne Lavanant.
Judy grew up in Trenton, Michigan and graduated in 1969 from Trenton High School. Although she was shy, she made some noise playing percussion in the Trenton High School band. She met Dale Gregg while attending Trenton High School and they married on April 24, 1971. Judy received her nursing diploma from Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan in 1972 and began her 47-year career in nursing. She worked in the Neonatal Care Unit of Seaway hospital until 1997. Judy and Dale raised their three children in Trenton, Michigan. The family was very involved in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton, where Judy served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
After many family trips to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Judy realized her dream of living in Celebration, Florida. The family became one of the founding members of the community in June 1997 and Judy continued her nursing career at the AdventHealth Women’s Center Celebration. As a nurse, Judy was very interested in health and fitness. Judy loved to run, completing two Disney half-marathons and several 5k races. She was the most petite beefcake bodybuilder at the AdventHealth Wellness Center Celebration and encouraged her family in healthy life habits, even while creating excellent meals and baking Ghirardelli brownies to undo the progress.
As well as caring for her family, patients, and church, Judy was a champion for adopting and caring for many furry family members. She has cared for a Basset Hound, four Cocker Spaniels, four cats, and two vacationing Maltese dogs. She also assisted in finding homes for rescue cats and kept a cat food supply in her car to feed the kitties living in the hospital garage until they could find a rescue.
