Winter Park officials will gather this week to break ground on a new, 2.4-acre park.

The city will host a ground-breaking ceremony for Seven Oaks Park at the corner of Orange Avenue and Denning Drive on Thursday, April 13 at 10 a.m. Because the area is an active construction site, flat, closed-to shoes and long pants are required.

Over the next year, city officials hope to transform the 2.4-acre property from empty land to a new gathering place for activities. There are a collection of local businesses situated right around the new park, including Buttermilk Bakery, Foxtail Coffee, Create Your Nature, and Mead Botanical Garden, among others.

In addition to the ground-breaking, the Winter Park Urban Forestry Division will host a free tree giveaway as part of its Arbor Day celebration.

Refreshments will be available and members of the Winter Park Land Trust will provide information on how to help the city acquire additional greenspace.
