A new toll pass system will allow visitors flying in through the Orlando International Airport to pay the cheapest toll rates, avoiding costly rental car company programs.

The Visitor Toll Pass will go on sale later this year at the airport. The pas is an alternative to rental car programs for visitors traveling roundtrip through the airport, acting as a temporary toll tag that can be used to pay tolls electronically.

Free to reserve, the toll pass claims that it offers the lowest toll rates available, saving travelers as much as 80% compared with rental car toll programs. Visitors may travel nonstop with the pass, with all toll payments being assessed electronically.

The pass may be activated through a downloadable app that connects a rental vehicle’s license plate to the pass.

Those seeking to use a Visitor Toll Pass are advised to decline the rental car company’s toll payment program when retrieving a vehicle.

The pass may be used for as long as 90 days before it is returned. If unreturned, the traveler will lose an initial $10 deposit, which would otherwise be used towards tolls. For travelers that return the pass and owe less than $10 at the conclusion of the trip, the balance will be refunded to the card on file.

The pass works with a variety of car rental companies, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hertz, National, Payless Car Rental, Sixt Rent-A-Car, and Thrifty.

Airport officials say the new pass will be available sometime later this year, although no date certain has been set.
