The city of Orlando has been named the second best city for recreation by a personal finance website.
WalletHub released its 2023 Best & Worst Cities for Recreation earlier this month, naming the City Beautiful as the second best city. The top spot was claimed by Las Vegas.
“The best cities have a wide range of leisure activities, both indoor and outdoor. Those activities require varying levels of exercise and contribute to a city’s overall well-being and economy,” reads the list.
In order to compile the list, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 48 metrics that speak to the “benefits of recreational activities.” In each city, the company examined living costs, quality of parks, accessibility to entertainment, and recreational facilities, among other factors.
Orlando ranked first in its availability of entertainment and recreational facilities. Those facilities include Camping World Stadium, Exploria Stadium, Amway Center, and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, among others.
Last week, Architectural Digest named Steinmetz Hall as one of the 11 most beautiful theaters in the world.
Orlando ranked 54th for its cost of living, 61st for its quality of parks, and 28th for its weather.
The City Beautiful joined five other Florida cities that made the list, including Tampa (#3), St. Petersburg (#19), Jacksonville (#33), Miami (#54), and Hialeah (#93).
The second place designation is one of several accolades that the city of Orlando has received in recent weeks.
In May, WalletHub named Orlando the best city for summer jobs, as well as the best large city in the country in which to start a business.
That same month, Rent.com ranked Orlando as the best city in which to work remotely. A variety of Orlando restaurants were also honored this year with recognition by the MICHELIN Guide.
WalletHub compiled its list using data collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, Council for Community and Economic Research, The Trust for Public Land, Yelp.com, and multiple other sources.
