A Florida Highway Patrol trooper used his vehicle to stop another vehicle from driving the wrong way onto a busy stretch of Interstate 4 in Orlando.
The incident took place near the John Young Parkway entrance ramp of I-4 eastbound at 10:38 p.m. on Monday, July 24.
According to authorities, FHP troopers were dispatched to I-4 after they were advised of a vehicle traveling westbound within the eastbound lanes of I-4, near mile marker 83 in Orlando.
Multiple units from the Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and FHP responded to the area in an attempt to stop the wrong way driver.
When police arrived on the scene, they observed a 2022 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on the eastbound, John Young Parkway entrance ramp.
An FHP trooper entered the eastbound entrance ramp from I-4 and observed the Corolla approaching on the south shoulder of the entrance ramp. The trooper attempted to block the vehicle from reaching the intersection by positioning his vehicle in front of the Corolla.
The Corolla continued traveling westbound, swerved to the right, and entered the travel lanes of the entrance ramp. The FHP trooper turned his vehicle towards the left to block the Corolla, causing both vehicles to collide with each other.
After the collision, the Corolla continued onto the north grass shoulder of the entrance ramp until it collide with a palm tree.
The driver of the Corolla, a 48-year-old woman from Tucson, Arizona, was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation.
