A manhunt is underway for suspects who fired shots at Orlando police officers, critically injuring two of them, after a traffic stop in downtown.

The shooting took place at 11 p.m. on Friday, August 4, according to a press conference held early this morning by Orlando Police Department Chief Eric D. Smith.

Orlando police were investigating a vehicle in the area of Garland Avenue and Washington Street that was wanted for a homicide in Miami.

During the stop, a suspect shot at two officers. Those officers were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they are in critical condition.

The suspect then carjacked a vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

“This is a sad day for our police department. I want to thank all the law enforcement agencies who are assisting us. We will find these suspects and bring them to justice,” said Chief Smith.
