A 7-year-old child was killed while she was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by another vehicle fleeing the scene of a vehicle robbery in Apopka on Thursday.
According to the Apopka Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a vehicle burglary in progress on Thursday morning.
While officers were responding to the vehicle burglary, Apopka dispatchers received a second call regarding a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N. Maine Avenue and Summit Street.
According to police, one of the vehicles involved in the accident was leaving the scene of the auto burglary when it crashed into a vehicle occupied by a mother and her two young children.
The mother and her children were transported to a local hospital. Authorities say that one of the children, a 7-year-old, succumbed to her injuries. The mother, who was driving the vehicle, is currently hospitalized in stable condition. The second child passenger has been treated and released from the hospital.
