A 38-year-old man who was fleeing the scene of a burglary at 80 mph in a 30 mph zone, has been charged with felony murder and vehicular homicide after his vehicle allegedly crashed into another vehicle, killing a 7-year-old passenger.
Marcus Atone Williams was taken into custody on Thursday, October 5, on multiple felony charges related to the fatal accident, which took place just past 8 a.m.
According to the Apopka Police Department, Williams was observed committing a burglary to a vehicle in the Mainline Subdivision.
After Williams was confronted by the vehicle owner, he allegedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed. According to police, Williams’ vehicle was observed “driving recklessly at an approximately speed of 80 mph” in a 30-mph residential street.
As he was approaching the intersection of N. Maine Avenue and Summit Street, Williams’ vehicle allegedly struck a vehicle occupied by a mother and her two children.
Williams, the mother, and her two children were all transported to local hospitals. A 7-year-old child in the vehicle succumbed to her injuries, while the child’s mother was last reported in stable condition.
Authorities say that Williams was receiving surgery for injuries incurred during the accident.
Williams faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, felony murder, vehicular homicide, and driving while license suspended causing death.
According to court records, Williams has been arrested at least a half dozen times in the past five years for a variety of offenses.
