Three teenagers from Orlando were arrested after they allegedly carjacked a woman’s vehicle and fled through multiple counties before they were stopped by stop sticks and a PIT maneuver executed by police.
Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office issued a “be on the lookout” (BOLO) alert for a stolen vehicle that was heading into Volusia County. The car was allegedly stolen from a 59-year-old woman by three 17-year-old individuals.
Using license plate reading technology, law enforcement confirmed the presence of the stolen vehicle in Deltona. A short time thereafter, deputies confirmed spotting the car at a local theater.
Deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office positioned near the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, and the vehicle fled from the scene.
According to authorities, the vehicle began heading towards Daytona via eastbound I-4, where it allegedly reached speeds of “about 113 mph.” Officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department were able to issue stop sticks on Beville Road and a precision immobilization technique was performed.
While surveilling the scene, police say they also found a black, semi-automatic firearm on the ground near the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was disabled and the three occupants were all taken into custody. Their names were not released to the public on account of their age.
All three individuals face multiple felony charges. The driver was charged with grand theft auto, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude, and driving without a valid license.
