An Orlando artist whose murals can be found all throughout the city added another work of art to help celebrate the grand re-opening of a local Walmart.
Kaitlyn T. Embury unveiled her new mural earlier this month at the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 600 S Alafaya Trail in Orlando.
Embury says she was commissioned by a Los Angeles-based public art agency to complete the work and that, over the past several months, she has been creating murals at local Walmarts, including one in her own neighborhood.
The mural depicts the iconic Lake Eola fountain, as well as the Walt Disney Amphitheater in downtown Orlando. In the mural’s sky, the clouds form a map of world continents.
“I’ve been working on creating some murals for Walmart throughout Florida. Fortunately, one of them happens to be in my neighborhood,” said the artist in a social media post.
According to Embury, she spent about a week digitally sketching and illustrating the art piece using Photoshop and Procreate. After she finished her sketches, the file was sent to Walmart and printed on a thick paper that was later adhered to the wall of the future mural.
Embury says she was shocked by how seamless the process was in comparison to previous experiences.
“I couldn’t get over how seamless the installation looked when I saw it in person. I’ve been doing illustration work for a while now, but seeing it printed on a massive wall as opposed to in books was mind-blowing,” said Embury on Facebook.
