A Titusville pharmacist has been sentenced to 12 months and 1 day behind bars for distributing and dispensing multiple drugs, including oxycodone and methadone, after hours in exchange for cash.

Basil Samir Itani, 47, was sentenced this week in the U.S. Middle District Court of Florida after pleading guilty in September to charges of distributing and dispensing controlled substances. Itani had faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.

According to a plea agreement in the case, on nine different occasions between January 5, 2023 and May 24, 2023, a confidential source purchased controlled substances from Itani at his business, Itani Family Pharmacy.

The confidential source did not have a prescription for any of the purchases.

According to court records, the source made multiple purchases of oxycodone, methadone, morphine, methylphenidate, and alprazolam after business hours at the pharmacy, which is located at 2507 Garden Street in Titusville.

In total, authorities believe Itani sold at least 3,500 units of oxycodone, over 1,300 units of methadone, nearly 400 units of alprazolam, and 200 units of morphine.

A sentencing date has not yet been set in the case.
