The Orlando Guardians will not be apart of a newly formed league between the XFL and United States Football League.
On Monday, the United Football League (UFL) announced eight teams for its inaugural season, which kicks off on March 30. Orlando’s team, which finished the season with a 1-9 record, was not among those named.
The new league merges teams and coaches from the XFL and United States Football League (USFL).
Last year, the Orlando Guardians were one of eight teams named as part of the new XFL, which kicked off in February.
Led by head coach Terrell Buckley, the Guardians’ sole victory came against the DC Defenders on April 1. The team won that game by one point.
The newly formed UFL will feature teams in Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and Michigan, among other states.
The UFL will play a 10-game regular season that starts with a matchup between former leagues champions from the USFL (Birmingham Stallions) and XFL (Arlington Renegades) on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
A slew of high profile coaches will head the eight teams, including former Oklahoma head coaching legend Bob Stoops, who will coach the Arlington affiliate.
The new league’s schedule was first announced by co-owners Dany Garcia and Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson during ESPN’s College GameDay on Monday.
The new league will broadcast games across ABC, ESPN, Fox and FS1.
