A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Orlando Police Department patrol vehicle while crossing John Young Parkway on Monday night.

According to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a marked OPD Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on John Young Parkway, near the intersection of Vision Boulevard, at around 11:30 p.m.

At the same time, a woman was walking in a westerly direction on John Young Parkway. A trooper noted in the report that the woman was not walking in a marked crosswalk.

FHP stated that the woman proceeded to walk directly into the path of the OPD patrol vehicle in the center lane, which resulted in a collision.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report mentioned that the medical examiner’s office will update FHP once the woman has been positively identified.

The crash remains under investigation.
