AAA is bringing back its free transportation service, Tow to Go, for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend in an effort to prevent injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15 and running until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18, AAA’s “Tow to Go” program will provide a free ride and vehicle tow to impaired drivers that do not have an alternative way to get home.

Since its inception in 1998, the program has helped saved lives by removing nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the road, according to AAA.

“It’s never safe to drive impaired,” states AAA. “So please be sure to plan ahead.”

The free confidential ride is available to members of AAA as well as non-members, and a tow truck will take the vehicle and driver home or to a safe location within a ten-mile radius. In some instances, AAA may need to find other arrangements to help get an impaired individual to their home.

Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance, and the “Tow to Go” program might not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions. The program operates on most major holidays.
