One person was killed, and another injured, in a two-vehicle crash in Osceola County early Thursday morning.
At around 1:25 a.m., a 60-year-old man from Kissimmee was traveling eastbound on Oakwood Drive, near the intersection of Buenaventura Boulevard, in a 2013 Toyota Prius, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that at the same time, a 33-year-old Kissimmee man was heading southbound on Buenaventura Boulevard in a 2011 Nissan Rogue.
A trooper noted in the report that when the Toyota Prius (sedan) reached the intersection, the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Buenaventura Boulevard. The vehicle proceeded to travel directly into the path of the Nissan Rogue (SUV), resulting in a collision.
The front of the SUV struck the driver’s side of the sedan. After the impact, the sedan veered off the roadway in a northeasterly direction, according to the report.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
