A 19-year-old man from Orlando was killed early Friday morning after he fell off his motorcycle while trying to avoid a collision in Orange County.
At around 1:05 a.m., the man was heading southbound on Goldenrod Road, near the intersection of Mai Tai Drive, on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle. He was traveling in the inside lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A trooper noted in the report that a second vehicle, a 2021 Nissan Rogue, was heading northbound on Goldenrod Road, near the same intersection, in the inside left turn lane.
The driver of the SUV, identified in the report as a 57-year-old Orlando man, proceeded to make a left turn to travel westbound onto Mai Tai Drive. During the turn, his vehicle entered the direct path of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist swerved to avoid a collision, which caused him to lose control and fall off the motorcycle.
The rider and sole occupant of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The report stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was not injured, and he remained at the scene of the accident.
