A 44-year-old Lakeland man was killed on Sunday night after he was struck by a car while walking along a roadway in Orange County.
The fatal accident occurred shortly after 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, near the intersection of State Road 535 (S Apopka Vineland Road) and Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores Drive, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on SR 535, south of the LBV Factory Stores Drive intersection, in the outside lane.
At the same time, the pedestrian from Lakeland was walking in a southerly direction along the unpaved shoulder of SR 535’s southbound lanes.
A trooper noted in the report that the Toyota was unable to stay in the southbound lane. The vehicle veered onto the unpaved shoulder, where its front right section struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name was not released by FHP.
The Camry’s driver, a 20-year-old woman from Kissimmee, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
