A woman was killed in a rear-end collision on State Road 528 in Orange County on Wednesday morning.
The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the westbound lanes of State Road 528, near the Florida Turnpike (mile marker 5) in Orlando.
According to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV (2024 Hyundai Tucson) and box truck (2015 Ford F-750) were both in the outside lane while heading westbound on SR 528. A trooper noted that the SUV was traveling behind the truck.
The report stated that moments before the crash, the truck stopped for traffic ahead. The SUV’s driver and sole occupant failed to stop her vehicle and instead swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision.
The left front of the SUV proceeded to strike the right rear side of the box truck.
The driver of the SUV sustained fatal injuries in the crash. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The two occupants of the box truck – a 38-year-old Orlando man (driver) and 33-year-old man (passenger) – were not injured.
Due to the accident, the westbound right two lanes on State Road 528 are currently blocked.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
