A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly pointed a laser at a Seminole County Sheriff’s Office helicopter early Thursday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, an SCSO Alert helicopter was responding to a call when a green laser light was observed coming from a home located in unincorporated Winter Springs.

After the green laser repeatedly struck the helicopter, SCSO traced the light back to a home located in the 1200 block of Andres Drive.

Deputies responded to the home and made contact with a 16-year-old boy who was suspected of wielding the laser.

The teen suspect was arrested and charged with pointing a laser light at a law enforcement helicopter, which is a felony.

In a social media post on Friday afternoon, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that laser strikes can cause pilots to become temporarily disoriented, which then places the flight crew in danger.
