A 14-year-old girl from Orlando died on Thursday evening after a tree fell on top of a car that she was riding in.

At around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, a 2011 Lexus IS was heading southbound on Reams Road, south of the Summerlake Park Boulevard intersection, in Orange County, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A trooper noted in the report that as the car was traveling on Reams Road, a tree on the west shoulder of the roadway fell onto its roof.

The 14-year-old girl, who was sitting in the right rear passenger seat, was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The car’s remaining occupants, a 40-year-old female driver and 12-year-old boy, both from Orlando, were not injured.

Due to the fatal crash involving a tree, the northbound and southbound lanes of Reams Road were temporarily blocked on Thursday evening.

No further details were provided in the accident report.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
