A Tesla driver was killed on Thursday morning after crashing into a tree in Osceola County.

The fatal crash occurred at around 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, near the intersection of Hickory Tree Road and Nursery Road in St. Cloud, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2018 Tesla Model X was traveling eastbound on Hickory Tree Road, west of the Nursery Road intersection. A trooper noted in the report that the Tesla was “traveling above the posted speed limit” when it approached a curve in the roadway.

The driver proceeded to lose control of the Tesla, and the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right before striking a nearby tree. Due to the impact, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the vehicle, identified in the report as an adult male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the Florida Highway Patrol once the driver has been positively identified.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
