A 19-year-old convicted felon who fled from Sanford police in January is facing up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing a loaded firearm.
On Thursday, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg of the Middle District of Florida announced that Lake Mary resident Dominick Yvon Louissaint has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
According to court documents, on January 24, 2024, Sanford Police Department officers responded to a call about a suspected burglary. Upon arrival at the incident location, officers made contact with Louissaint and ordered him to show his hands.
Instead of complying with officers, Louissaint proceeded to flee on foot. When he was later apprehended, officers found a Taurus pistol concealed in his pant leg and a box of ammunition in one of his pockets.
As a convicted felon, Louissaint is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
Under his plea deal, Louissaint has agreed to forfeit the pistol and ammunition involved in the offense.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Sanford Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Varadan.
Louissaint faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
Earlier this week, a 25-year-old convicted felon from Orlando pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm after a loaded pistol was found in his bedroom closet.
