Orlando meth distributor found guilty by federal jury

An Orlando man is facing up to life in prison after a federal jury found him guilty of distributing hundreds of grams of methamphetamine.

On Friday, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced that 56-year-old Patrick Hugh Mitchell has been convicted of possession with the intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, a confidential source working with the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted several controlled purchases from Mitchell in order to identify his drug sources.

During one of those purchases, Mitchell was identified as the source of supply for more than 892 grams of methamphetamine.

Mitchell distributed the drugs in the parking lot of a gas station, where he also detailed cars and sold food. He also bragged about the high quality of the methamphetamine he sold.

Forensic tests were conducted on the methamphetamine that was seized from Mitchell, and chemists determined that it was “100% pure.”

Mitchell faces a maximum mandatory penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on September 25, 2024.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Megan Testerman and Michael Sartoian.
