An 18-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly shot at an occupied vehicle in Volusia County.

Late at night on Thursday, July 4, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1000 block of George Anderson Street in Ormond Beach after multiple victims stated that someone had fired at them while they were inside a vehicle, according to VCSO.

Upon arrival, the deputies observed bullet holes in the vehicle, and the sheriff’s office stated that the gunfire had “narrowly missed” the victims at “head or chest level.”

An investigation was launched, and VCSO detectives identified 18-year-old Dylan Preis as the suspected shooter in this case. Preis had a “recent falling out” with the driver of the vehicle, and the sheriff’s office stated that Preis eventually confessed to the shooting.

According to VCSO, Preis allegedly admitted to using his grandmother’s 9mm handgun to shoot at the vehicle. The gun, ammunition, and shell casings were recovered by detectives at the scene of the shooting.
