A 36-year-old Orlando man was killed on Saturday night after his motorcycle rear-ended a pickup truck on Colonial Drive in Orange County.
The fatal accident took place shortly after 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, near the intersection of State Road 50 (Colonial Drive) and Cox Drive in Orlando.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2006 Suzuki GSX1300R motorcycle was traveling westbound on Colonial Drive, in the inside lane, when it approached the intersection of Cox Drive.
A 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck was also heading westbound on Colonial Drive, ahead of the motorcycle, in the same lane.
A trooper noted in the report that the motorcyclist “failed to slow for (the pickup truck) ahead,” and a collision ensued. The front of the motorcycle proceeded to crash into the right rear section of the pickup truck, and the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle.
After the impact, the motorcycle continued off the roadway before coming to a final rest in a ditch.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The report stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The pickup truck’s occupants – a 33-year-old man (driver), 29-year-old woman, 35-year-old man, and 51-year-old woman, all from Orlando – were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Earlier in the evening on Saturday, July 6, a 40-year-old Orlando man died after his motorcycle struck an SUV that turned into his path on Hiawassee Road.
