The Orlando Police Department has released video surveillance footage of the moments leading up to a shooting in a local neighborhood that injured a 45-year-old man and young child over the weekend.
According to OPD, officers responded to the 700 block of Oxalis Avenue at around 12:18 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, in reference to shots being fired.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a 45-year-old man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A 4-year-old girl was also struck by gunfire during the incident.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.
The police department stated that detectives were quickly able to identify two suspects in this case: 32-year-old Yasmi Lidieth Matamoros-Mendoza and 39-year-old Marvin Antonio Paguanda Sanchez.
OPD officers detained Paguanda Sanchez at the scene of the shooting, and Matamoros-Mendoza was later located by the United States Marshals Services after fleeing to Louisiana.
In a media release, OPD provided video footage from around the time of the shooting. “Some of the images are blurred to protect the identity of the victims,” stated the police department.
At the time of the incident, several suspects pulled up in a dark gray SUV and approached a light gray pickup truck, which had four occupants inside – the man and child who were wounded in the shooting and two victims who were not injured.
In addition to the two suspects (Marvin Antonio Paguanda Sanchez and Yasmi Lidieth Matamoros-Mendoza) who were previously identified and arrested for their alleged involvement in this case, the Orlando Police Department announced on Tuesday, July 9, that a third suspect – identified as Juan Carlos Lopez-Ruiz – has been located and arrested.
Paguanda Sanchez has been charged with accessory after the fact (two counts) and tampering with physical evidence. Matamoros-Mendoza is facing the following charges: attempted second-degree murder (four counts), robbery with a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm (two counts), and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
The third suspect, Lopez-Ruiz, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm (two counts), aggravated battery (two counts), attempted second-degree murder with a firearm (two counts), armed robbery with a firearm, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm.
OPD stated that its detectives believe that the three suspects in this case “may have been involved in other robberies.”
