A passenger was killed on Friday evening, and three others were seriously injured, after their car crashed into a semi-truck and overturned on State Road 528.
The fatal accident took place at around 5:55 p.m. on Friday, July 12, east of mile marker 49 on State Road 528 in Brevard County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles – a car (2005 Infiniti G35) and semi-truck – were heading eastbound on State Road 528, just east of State Road 3 (Courtenay Parkway), in the left lane.
FHP stated that the car was traveling behind the semi-truck when the driver lost control. The car then veered onto the left shoulder before rotating in a clockwise direction back onto the roadway.
As the car continued to rotate, its front section crashed into the left side of the semi-truck. The impact caused the car to overturn onto the right shoulder.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that one of the car’s passengers, a 20-year-old Merritt Island woman, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The car’s other occupants – a 21-year-old Cocoa man (driver), 21-year-old Cocoa man (passenger), and 17-year-old Titusville boy (passenger) – were transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the semi-truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
