A 21-year-old Winter Springs man has been arrested on a vehicular homicide charge more than a year after a car he was driving struck a tree, overturned, and caught on fire in Seminole County, killing a passenger.
On Monday, July 22, 2024, Zachary Edward Kreusch was arrested by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. A warrant had been issued by the Florida Highway Patrol in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on May 16, 2023, near the intersection of Brumley Road and White Tail Trail in Seminole County.
At around 10:25 p.m. on the night of the crash, a 2017 Porsche Boxster was traveling westbound on Brumley Road, near the White Tail Trail intersection. The car had two occupants – then-20-year-old Kreusch (driver) and a passenger identified as 20-year-old Dylan Charles Astacio, according to FHP.
The accident report stated that Kreusch failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway, and his car veered off the roadway and onto the south shoulder before running off the roadway to the left. The vehicle then traveled into a ditch before striking a tree.
After the initial impact, the car overturned multiple times. The report stated that Kreusch was able to exit the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames.
Astacio remained trapped in the vehicle as it caught on fire, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Kreusch sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
After being arrested on July 22, 2024, Kreusch was booked into Seminole County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $15,000 bond.
Kreusch is scheduled to appear in Seminole County Court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, according to jail records.
