The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash on Colonial Drive that claimed the life of a Pine Hills woman on Sunday night.

The fatal crash occurred at around 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, near the intersection of Colonial Drive and Good Homes Road in Orange County.

According to a preliminary report from FHP, a 37-year-old woman from Pine Hills was walking across the eastbound lanes of Colonial Drive, east of the Good Homes Road intersection, when she was struck by an unknown vehicle that was traveling in the inside lane.

A trooper noted in the report that the woman was not in a marked crosswalk when she walked in the direct path of the vehicle. As a result, the front left side of the vehicle collided with the woman, and the driver fled from the scene of the crash.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

FHP stated that a vehicle part was located at the scene of the collision, and investigators believe that it may belong to a 2015-2017 BMW 3 Series (320i, 320i X, 328d, or 328d X).

While the color of the vehicle involved in the crash is currently unknown, FHP believes that the vehicle should have damage to the front left fog light and/or front left headlight.
