Landscaping company to close Kissimmee facility, laying off over 100 workers

A North Carolina-based landscaping company is shuttering its facility in Osceola County and laying off more than 100 employees.

On August 28, 2024, Yardnique announced that operations at its facility located at 650 W Southport Road in Kissimmee will cease by October 31, 2024, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing with the Florida Department of Commerce

“This action is expected to be permanent and upon conclusion of the shutdown activities the entire plant will be closed permanently,” said the company in a letter to employees.

No further details were provided by Yardnique regarding the reason for the closure.

The layoffs will affect a total of 106 employees at the Kissimmee facility, with separations expected to occur on October 31, 2024. Those workers include 3 account managers, a branch manager, 27 crew leaders, 54 crew members, 2 customer service representatives, an irrigation manager, 10 irrigation technicians, an office coordinator, and 7 spray technicians.

The filing shows that all affected employees were given a 60-day notice of their termination.

According to Yardnique, there will not be any bumping rights for the Kissimmee facility’s 106 workers, which means that they do not have the right to take another employee’s job as a result of this closure.

Founded in 1997, Yardnique specializes in commercial landscape maintenance, design, and installation. The company, which employs “over 2,000 grounds care, design, and horticulture professionals,” operates under its flagship brand Yardnique as well as through “various wholly owned landscape service brands,” according to its website.
