The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman who was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend at a local residence on Thursday evening.
According to VCSO, deputies responded to a home located in the 4200 block of Liza Clinton Road in Edgewater at around 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, in reference to a shooting incident.
When deputies arrived, they located a female victim, later identified as 40-year-old Monica Robarge, who was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim’s boyfriend was also at the scene. While speaking with VCSO detectives, he allegedly stated that he “shot (the victim) in self-defense during an altercation.”
The boyfriend was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified minor injuries. When detectives attempted to speak with him at the hospital, he refused to further discuss the shooting incident without an attorney present.
“He has not been charged at this time,” stated VCSO in a social media post. The boyfriend’s identity has not been released by law enforcement.
VCSO detectives stated that there are no reports of any prior domestic violence incidents involving the victim and her boyfriend.
No further details were provided by the sheriff’s office as the investigation into the shooting is “active and ongoing.”
