A 39-year-old Orlando woman was killed early Friday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County.
The fatal crash occurred at around 1 a.m. on Friday, October 18, on Florida’s Turnpike southbound, near mile marker 202.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport was heading southbound on the Turnpike when it approached mile marker 202 in the inside lane. At the same time, a semi-truck was heading southbound in the outside lane.
FHP stated that the Chevrolet experienced a “tire blowout” near the mile marker, which caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and into the left shoulder before striking the center guardrail.
After the initial impact, the Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the right and came to a final rest, partially blocking the outside lane and outside shoulder. Shortly after the female driver from Orlando exited the Chevrolet, the semi-truck collided with the woman and the left rear section of her vehicle.
The report stated that the semi-truck proceeded to crash into a cable barrier before overturning on its left side in a nearby ditch.
The Chevrolet’s driver and sole occupant sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The semi-truck’s driver, a 66-year-old man from North Lauderdale, was not injured.
In the report, an FHP trooper noted that the crash is currently under investigation.
