One person was killed in a fiery crash on Tuesday night, and two others were injured, after a car was rear-ended by a semi-truck on Interstate 95 in Volusia County.
The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 at around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a semi-truck was heading northbound on I-95, near mile marker 248, in the outside lane when the vehicle struck the back of a car that was traveling in the same lane.
Following the initial crash, both vehicles veered off the roadway to the right, where they collided with trees.
The car involved in the crash became engulfed in flames. The unidentified driver and sole occupant of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that due to the fire, the make and model of the car is currently unknown.
Both of the semi-truck’s occupants – a 58-year-old man (driver) and 65-year-old man (passenger), both from Miami – were transported to AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
