An 18-year-old Apopka man died on Monday night after his car struck a utility pole near an intersection in Orange County.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 10:20 p.m. on Monday, November 18, near the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Ponkan Road in Apopka.

FHP stated that a 2014 Infiniti Q50 was traveling southbound on Rock Springs Road, south of Ponkan Road, in the inside lane when the vehicle veered out of its lane for unknown reasons. The 18-year-old driver then over-corrected to the right, which caused the vehicle to travel in a clockwise direction across the southbound lanes and onto the sidewalk.

Moments later, the left side of the car collided with a utility pole. After the impact, the vehicle reentered the southbound lanes of Rock Springs Road before coming to a final rest.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, where he was pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
