A man was hospitalized on Friday morning after a fire broke out at a storage unit facility in Volusia County.

According to the DeLand Fire Department, firefighters responded to the 800 block of N Spring Garden Avenue at around 10:35 a.m. on Friday, January 3, after receiving reports of a structure fire.

When DFD crew members arrived at the facility, they observed several storage units that were on fire. After entering those units, the firefighters immediately began combating the flames.

DFD stated that the fire was quickly extinguished in the first three storage units. Additional crew members then searched and monitored the surrounding units to confirm that the fire had not spread.

A man was observed outside the facility. He told firefighters that his storage unit had been affected by the fire, and he advised that he was in need of medical attention.

Paramedics transported the man to an Orlando-area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burn injuries.

The DeLand Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, according to DFD.
