An investigation is underway after Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot a man who was allegedly involved in two drive-by shootings in Pine Hills on Wednesday morning.

According to OCSO, deputies responded to two drive-by shootings at a home located in the 2100 block of San Jose Boulevard in Orlando. The first drive-by shooting occurred at 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, and the second took place at around 8:40 a.m.

At the home, deputies recovered shell casings, though there was no evidence that anyone was struck by the gunfire.

An investigation was launched by OCSO, and deputies soon identified a 16-year-old boy as a suspect in the drive-by shootings. Deputies then tracked the suspect to a residence located in the 5200 block of Montague Place in Orlando.

When deputies arrived at the home on Montague Place, they confronted several individuals, including the 16-year-old suspect and another 24-year-old male suspect.

OCSO stated that the 16-year-old suspect was armed with a handgun that had an extended magazine. The deputies responded by firing their service weapons at the armed teen.

During the altercation, the 24-year-old male suspect in the drive-by shootings was struck in the foot by gunfire. According to the sheriff’s office, his injury is “non-life threatening.”

At least one firearm was recovered by law enforcement at the scene of the deputy-involved shooting.

No deputies were injured.

In a media release on Wednesday evening, OCSO said that several suspects are expected to be charged for their alleged involvement in the drive-by shootings. The names of the suspects were not released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting incident and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for further review. Once that process has been completed, OCSO will conduct its own internal investigation.

The deputies who shot their firearms during the incident are on paid administrative leave pending the results of the initial FDLE review.
