A Volusia County school bus was evacuated on Friday morning after a middle student on board allegedly made a false bomb threat.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, a Deltona Middle School student stood up on the bus and claimed that another student had a bomb in their backpack.

The driver immediately stopped the bus and reported the threat to VCSO. Deputies quickly arrived on scene to conduct an investigation, and all students were evacuated off the bus.

Deputies soon determined that there was no bomb, and all students and staff were safe after the incident.

In an update on social media, VCSO stated that the student responsible for the hoax threat is in custody. Additionally, the student is facing criminal charges for false reporting and campus disruption.

“Thanks to the bus driver and Volusia County Schools for the teamwork in taking all threats seriously!” added the sheriff’s office.
