Orlando firefighters were dispatched on Tuesday afternoon after a person became trapped in an elevator.
According to the Orlando Fire Department, a person was trapped in a six-story blind shaft elevator.
“A blind shaft indicates there is no external access to the elevator car, and the crew was unable to reach the car from the operating floor,” said OFD in a social media post.
Due to the complexity of the situation, crew members from OFD’s Tower 1 unit headed to the roof of the building and established a rope rescue system.
Firefighters then used the rope to rappel down to the elevator car, where they successfully extricated the trapped person swiftly and without further incident.
The OFD Tower 1 unit specializes in technical rescues, including high-angle rescue, confined space rescue, dive rescue, structural collapse rescue, and vehicle extrication. In addition, the crew members also respond to structure fires and medical calls, according to the fire department.
