A 33-year-old man is facing several felony charges after he allegedly exposed himself inside a department store in Volusia County.
On Saturday, January 11, Daytona Beach Police Department officers responded to the T.J. Maxx located at 1115 Cornerstone Boulevard after receiving reports that a man was “exposing and rubbing himself” inside the store, according to DBPD.
When officers arrived at the store, they made contact with two witnesses – an adult and a child – who both reported seeing a male suspect in the shoe aisle who was “exposing his genitals while rubbing them.”
DBPD stated that officers spotted the suspect, later identified as Johnnie Booker Toler, and observed that “part of his genitals” were exposed.
During an interview with officers, Toler claimed that he “did not realize he was exposed.” He further stated that he “had no intention of exposing himself to others,” according to police.
The officers reviewed the store’s video surveillance footage, which “corroborated witness accounts.” DBPD said that Toler was observed on the footage “engaging in inappropriate behavior,” which included making “lewd gestures,” while he was in close proximity to others.
At the time of the incident, Toler was near multiple customers, including children.
Toler was arrested and transported to Volusia County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior and one count of providing false information to law enforcement.
