The Orlando Fire Department is inviting artists to submit proposals for a public art installation at its new Fire Station 6 location, which is currently under construction.

According to OFD, the commissioned artwork will honor the firefighters who are dedicated to serving the City Beautiful. In addition, the artwork will “reflect their pride, commitment, and community connection.”

The city is looking for an art piece that is not only “meaningful and visually striking,” but also “inspire(s) a sense of honor, appreciation, and service.”

The deadline to submit proposal for the public art installation is Friday, February 7, 2025. This opportunity is open to local, national, and professional artists with experience designing and implementing large-scale public art.

City officials state that submissions will only be considered from artists that have a proven track record of completing similar projects in a timely manner while remaining on budget.

“The artwork should be created of material appropriate to an outdoor environment, must be of suitable construction that will last in perpetuity with minimal maintenance and be appropriate for public viewing,” reads the submission guidelines.

Originally built in 1979 inside the Orlando Executive Airport premises on E Robinson Street, Fire Station 6 will be relocating later this year to 501 Herndon Avenue.

Construction is currently underway on the new 15,913-sqare-foot fire station, with completion expected this fall.

Fire Station 6 will be positioned in a more centralized location to serve surrounding businesses and residential neighborhoods, according to OFD. Crews will remain in the current station until the new one is completed.
