A driver is being sought by Florida Highway Parol after his pickup truck’s mirror sideswiped a 63-year-old Orlando man, knocking him down while he was crossing U.S. 441 and leading to his death in Orange County.

According to an FHP report, the fatal accident took place at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, near the intersection of U.S. 441/N Orange Blossom Trail.

An unknown vehicle was traveling on the inside lane, northbound on the highway, just past Rosamond Drive.

The Orlando man, who was not walking in a marked crosswalk, began walking easterly and entered the northbound lanes of the highway.

As a result, the right side mirror of the unknown vehicle struck the pedestrian. After the collision, the vehicle continued traveling northbound, leaving the pedestrian lying in the street.

Shortly after the first collision, a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driving in the same lane collided with the pedestrian lying in the roadway. The driver of that pickup truck, a 76-year-old Apopka man, told police he tried to swerve to avoid the pedestrian but was unable.

The Orlando man was pronounced deceased on the scene, while the driver of the Tacoma was uninjured in the crash.

Police say witnesses described the vehicle that hit the pedestrian as a white or silver Chevrolet Silverado. No description was provided of the driver.

Anyone with information regarding this fatal crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Parol at 407-737-2213 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
