Sally Ann Sallee Wood, of Altamonte Springs and formerly of Danville, Kentucky, entered into eternal life on December 26, 2023. She is celebrated in love by her daughter Sara Wood Shibles, son-in-love, Matt Shibles, her three beloved grandsons, James Berndt, and Timothy and Andrew Shibles, and many other extended family members whom she loved dearly. Sally joins her late husband, Cecil “Fishbait” Wood, her daughter, Celia Wood, her parents, Clarence “Burgin” Sallee and Frances Louise Connelly Sallee, her brothers Joe Sallee, Jim Sallee, Buddy Sallee, and sister, Jena Sallee, all in Heaven.

Sally was a graduate of Danville High School and Appalachian School of Nursing, where she earned her LPN, and remained licensed for over 53 years. Almost all of her career was spent caring for the elderly, working at Friendship in Danville, Granny Nannies and Hospice in Central Florida, and her favorite: private duty care, where she developed lifelong relationships with many families. She was not only a nurse to those in her community, she was also nurse and caregiver to many family members, helping care for them and providing comfort to the rest of us.

Sally was introduced to Cecil by a mutual friend and they were married in 1972. Celia arrived in 1973 and Sara in 1976. Sally would continue to live on Grandview for the next 51 years, surrounded by the best neighbors a family could ask for.

In addition to her lifelong ministry in nursing, she enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, the beach, a bowl of butter pecan ice cream, hosting Christmas Eve, sitting on her carport praying, puttering around her yard, cooking a delicious, Southern Sunday dinner, traveling with her family, and supporting her grandsons in all of their many passions. She was the most selfless, compassionate, caring, loving mom, Grandma, and GranSally. She will be greatly missed every day but we know she will forever live in our hearts.

A memorial service at DeGusipe Funeral Home, in Maitland, Florida, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2023, and will be followed by a reception and gathering of family and friends upstairs.

There will also be a service in Danville, Kentucky, later in the spring.
