A teenager from Orlando was killed, and two men were injured, in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 417 in Orange County on Friday night.
At around 9:10 p.m., a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV and a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan were both traveling northbound on State Road 417, near mile marker 9. The sedan was in the center lane and the SUV was in the inside lane, according to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that the driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Winter Garden man, swerved into the center lane, and the SUV’s front right side struck the rear left side of the sedan.
After the impact, the sedan rotated counterclockwise in a northeasterly direction towards the east paved shoulder and the SUV crashed into a guardrail. According to the report, the SUV continued traveling through the guardrail before striking a tree and overturning into an embankment.
The SUV’s driver was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in critical condition. The vehicle’s passenger, a 16-year-old boy from Orlando, was transported to the same hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan, a 30-year-old Kissimmee man, was transported to HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek Emergency for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash is still under investigation.
