Hugo Penilla was born on March 18, 1958, in Bangor, Maine, to Leonida and Genaro Penilla. He is survived by his loving sisters Ana Maria and Sarah, his brother Ulysses, his devoted wife Debra, and their three sons: Bronson, Marcus and Jacob.

Hugo dedicated much of his life to serving his community, with Orange County Corrections. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become a respected Sergeant. Notably, he was appointed to lead the court team, a position he held with distinction for several years until his medical separation. His leadership was highly regarded by judges, colleagues, staff, and supervisors alike.

Having spent some of the best parts of his childhood in Los Angeles, he was an avid fan of the Lakers and the Rams. Hugo was particularly fond of fantasy football, and played in countless leagues over the years. He even commissioned a few fantasy football leagues of his own, fostering camaraderie and competition among friends.

Hugo’s personality was characterized by an infectious sense of joy and an easy charm that endeared him to all who knew him. He possessed an unwavering fearlessness when faced with challenges, whether in his professional or personal life. His love was boundless, his passions fierce, and his presence deeply cherished by those fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held on May 18, at 2 p.m. at A Community Funeral Home & Sunset Cremations, located at 910 W. Michigan Street in Orlando.
